On July 3, we are invited to visit the newly installed central storage facility of the Wien Museum.

The museum holds a collection of about 1 million objects, ranging from artwork to clocks, textiles, armory, and material culture documenting the history and development of Austria's capital.

WHAT: "DonnerstARC" lecture on managing and preventing damage to art

WHEN: Thursday, May 8 2014, 5.30 pm

WHERE: Belvedere Research Center, Rennweg 4, 1030 Wien/Vienna

ADMISSION: free for members, contribution to expenses for friends and visitors is 6,-

We invited Bernd Noack to talk about preventing and managing damage to art. Mr. Noack is since 2003 an independent art consultant with artscout, author of numerous articels, and editor of the art journal artelab.

He discussed with us issues like assessing risks when it comes to exhibiting art, how to prevent damage, the intricate business of assessing the reduction of value in case of damage, and provided guidlines about what to do when the worst case occurs.

As part of our commitment towards ongoing education and exchange of experience, we invited our colleagues to the first expert talk of our series "DonnerstARC". MA Anita Gach will open this regular series of talks. She is head of illicit traffic in cultural heritage at the Austrian Federal Criminal Police Office (Bundeskriminalamt).

In here talk she gave an overview over illicit traffic in cultural heritage (theft, robbery, forgery): Where does stolen art emerge? Furthermore, she will provide information about potential threats for museums and exhibition makers (e.g. the smuggling of forgeries into exhibitions).

9. European Registrars Conference, 8.-10. Juni 2014 in Helsinki: Early Birds

The 9. European Registrars Conference will be hosted by the Nordic Registrars Group from June 8-10 in Helsinki, Finland.
